Amid the success of the recent live-action remakes of film classics, Disney and Jon Favreau have put together a star-studded voice cast to present the live-action “The Lion King.”
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Beyonce confirmed her role as Nala in the Disney remake. Included in the post was the rest of the star-studded voice cast, from Donald Glover as Simba to James Earl Jones, who will be reprising his role as Mufasa from the 1994 original classic.
The cast also includes Alfre Woodard, who has signed on to play Sarabi, Simba’s mother, John Kani as Rafiki, Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumbaa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar and John Oliver as Zazu.
“It is a director’s dream to assemble a talented team like this to bring this classic story to life,” Favreau said of the cast and crew, which includes Jeffrey Silver, Karen Gilchrist and Tom Peitzman.
“The Lion King” will premiere in theaters on July 19, 2019.
