California has more than two million Covid-19 cases, making it the state with the most cases in the country.

California has been getting worse and worse, as cases rise with more than 100 confirmed every day. More than 23,000 people have died from the virus in the state, NBC News reports.

In particular, Los Angeles County has taken the most hits with more than 660,000 cases of the virus, according to data gathers by John Hopkins University.

Experts say they believe case numbers will soar with people traveling in and out of town for the holidays. The remaining winter months will also be dangerous, said Dr. Robert Redfield, the head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has said he believes “they’re going to be the most difficult time in the public health history of this nation.”

Right now, the country has recorded  222,866 new cases and 3,135 deaths since Wednesday. More than 1.1 million people hopped on an airplane the day of Christmas Eve, the most since March. The Trump Administration plans on ordering another 100 million doses of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine, NBC News reports. And Nigeria has discovered a new variant of the coronavirus, The Associated Press reported on Thursday.

Chief of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and one of the leaders behind the Covid-19 responses Dr. Turns 80 on Thursday. During an interview with Politico, he said: “I’m going to spend it in a quiet dinner with my wife in my home, and Zoom in my daughters.”
