Chris Rock jokingly says he was slapped by “Suge Smith” following Will Smith’s public apology.
Hours after Smith shared an apology to Chris, the comedian took the stage to add some humor to this incident. Chris is currently on his Ego Death World Tour and is using the Oscars incident as material.
At his latest show, Chris jokingly compared Smith to former Death Row executive Suge Knight.
“Everybody is trying to be a f*cking victim,” the comedian said. “If everybody claims to be a victim, then nobody will hear the real victims. Even me getting smacked by Suge Smith … I went to work the next day, I got kids. Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face.”
In Smith’s latest apology, he mentions that Chris refuses to talk to him about the “unacceptable” moment.
“I reached out to Chris, and the message that came back is he’s not ready to talk, but when he is, he will reach out,” Smith said in the video. “I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable, and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”
Smith also apologized to Chris’s mother and his brother, actor Tony Rock.
“That was one of the things about that moment that I didn’t realize,” he continued. “I wasn’t thinking about how many people got hurt at that moment. I want to apologize to Chris’ mother, to Chris’ family, especially his brother Tony Rock.”
