The Florida Gators were taking on their rivals at Florida State when University of Florida basketball star, Keyontae Johnson collapsed early on in the game.
According to CNN, Johnson was walking back onto the court after a timeout when he collapsed. Taken out on a stretcher, he remains in critical, but stable condition.
His fellow team members were “shaken up” CNN reported, and many players were in tears, according to ESPN. The players, including the coaching staff, joined in prayer before deciding to resume play.
Post-game, coach Mike White immediately headed to Tallahassee Memorial hospital, while the other players headed back to Gainsville.
“Our thoughts are with you Key. Love you, man,” Florida Gators men’s basketball tweeted.
Why the junior forward randomly collapsed in unknown. But, according to ESPN, he tested positive for COVID-19 at the beginning of the summer, and apparently “the coronavirus can lead to myocarditis, a viral infection of the heart muscle.”
“I know you’re fighting bro,” teammate Tre Mann tweeted. “God got you.”
