Floyd Mayweather has announced that he will get back in the ring with Conor McGregor next year for a highly anticipated rematch. However, McGregor may not be here for it.
If you recall, the two went head-to-head in 2017, with Mayweather claiming the victory in the 10th round. Talks of a rematch were shot down for several years. However, it appears at least Mayweather has had a change of heart. The 45-year-old shared news of the fight ahead of his weekend exhibition with Japanese MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura.
“I have another exhibition in Dubai in November and me and Conor McGregor in 2023,” the undefeated champion told The Daily Mail.
However, despite Mayweather being ready to go up against McGregor once more, the Irish MMA fighter shared a photo from his and Mayweather’s previous fight with the caption, “Not Interested.”
In May, McGregor told Sky Sports that he was making his way back to boxing after excelling at mixed martial arts for years. Therefore, it would make sense that he’d want to reunite with Mayweather in the ring. It is unclear why McGregor would say he isn’t here for the rematch after Mayweather confirmed it would indeed take place. Perhaps the negotiations are not completed, or McGregor is truly rejecting the offer altogether.
Either way, fans are eager to see the two return for one last iconic match.
