CVS and Walgreens are putting a limit on how many at-home COVID-19 tests you can buy as Omicron variant cases continue to rise.
There’s a huge demand for COVID-19 tests, with the number of cases rising every day. There are currently 51.3 million cases and 808,000 COVID-19-related deaths in the United States. Like the beginning of the pandemic, hospital beds around the country are filling up, and more people are going to have to test themselves at home. However, pharmaceutical stores are telling people, just like there was a limit on toilet paper and other essentials, the same goes for COVID-19 tests.
“To ensure equitable access to tests both in-store and digitally, we’ve added a limit of six test kits per purchase,” the company said in a statement this past Tuesday while discussing how tests may go out of stock. “We’re committed to providing families with protection and peace of mind during the holiday season, and we continue to offer access to lab-based testing with results available in 1-2 days or rapid COVID-19 testing,” the statement said.
Walgreens shared the same news, saying it would be putting a limit on at-home tests “due to the incredible demand for at-home rapid testing. They also encouraged folks to be safe and stay smart during the pandemic. “We ask that our customers please show patience and understanding as together, we continue to navigate the evolving pandemic environment,” Walgreens President John Standley said.
