After the death of Harlem drug lord Alpo Martinez, Damon Dash says he is ready to complete the sequel to his iconic film, “Paid In Full.”
The 2002 film follows the story of Alpo Martinez, who was played by rapper Cam’Ron, Rich Porter, portrayed by Mekhi Phifer, and Azie Faison, played by “BMF” star Wood Harris. The wildly popular movie tells the story of how the three friends ran a lucrative drug enterprise before Martinez killed Porter, and Faison was wounded in a shooting that led him to walk away from the streets. In the years since the movie, rumors have swirled about a part two that would detail Martinez’s cooperation with the federal government and his release from prison. However, nothing ever came of the talks until now.
Dash, who is the mastermind behind the film, says that with Martinez’s death, he can finally complete the sequel in a way that would provide a conclusion to a tale that has captivated fans for nearly two decades.
“Paid in Full is a reflection of everything I’ve learned, and I am really going to see it through now that there’s an ending,” Dash told Page Six.
Martinez died Sunday after being shot several times during a drive-by shooting in Harlem. It remains unclear why he was in the city that night, as he was living in Maine under the federal witness protection program.
