DDG is opening up about his dismal album sales, despite heavy marketing in recent weeks.
The rapper and streamer addressed the numbers for his new project, “Blame the Chat,” in a candid series of tweets.
“I know the numbers, with minimal playlisting & producers interrupting the rollout, I think we did great,” he wrote. “Be prepared for 24-48 hours of people who can’t sell 10 records first week to have an opinion.”
Still, he outlined a plan to promote a single via TikTok and Instagram to continue pushing his album.
In response to a fan asking for the first-week tally, DDG replied: “1,230 first week.” Despite the underwhelming numbers, he appears focused on moving forward, stating, “Let’s focus on week 2.”
However, he later shared a conflicting figure, tweeting, “Selling 502 albums first week not bad. It’s all about the growth fr.”
“Blame the Chat” features appearances from BIA, Rob49, and Wiz Khalifa, among others. DJ Akademiks chimed in with support, noting that DDG’s primary revenue stream is streaming, suggesting he lean into that. While fans and critics debate the numbers, DDG seems determined to play the long game.
