In a turn of events that has caught many off guard, former Arizona Cardinals player Eric Green is now at the center of a $10 million lawsuit over allegations of sexual assault. The plaintiff, a transgender woman from New York named Angelina Mavilia, has brought forward claims that could significantly impact Green’s reputation and career.
The incident in question traces back to early 2009 in Scottsdale, Arizona, at a time when Green was still a part of the Arizona Cardinals. Mavilia recounts meeting Green at a casino, after which they went back to his condominium. It is there that Green allegedly assaulted Mavilia, with court documents stating that he became “extremely agitated and threatening” afterwards, insisting that Mavilia keep the incident to herself.
But the lawsuit against Green isn’t the only legal battle Mavilia is fighting. She’s also taking on the city of New York, claiming she was subjected to abusive and humiliating treatment by police officers. This separate lawsuit stems from an incident in October 2008, where Mavilia alleges she was dehumanized by law enforcement during an arrest for trespassing. According to her claims, she was forced to strip and was mocked for her gender identity, adding another layer of gravity to her legal actions.
As for Eric Green, attempts to reach him for comment have been unsuccessful. The case is a complex one, involving serious accusations that highlight not only personal but societal issues surrounding the treatment and rights of transgender individuals. As the legal process unfolds, many will be watching closely to see how these allegations against a former NFL player and the actions of law enforcement officers are addressed in court.
