Minnesota Vikings player Everson Griffen announced on Friday that he is bipolar.
The defensive end who recently had a mental health scare revealed that he began to experience issues after his mother passed away suddenly in 2012.
“It all started when my mother passed away,” Griffen wrote in a post on social media. “Went into a dark place, thought I was great for many years. I promise this time I will do everything the experts say. I love my family, and I miss my friends. Thank you for all the love and support, but most of all, thank you for all the prayers. #bEGreat #mentalhealthawareness.”
The 33-year-old caused concern last month after he brandished a gun in a video posted to Instagram and shared private messages from his agent, claiming people were trying to kill him.
