Florida just reported more than 21,000 new COVID-19 infections on Friday, making it the highest single-day increase since the beginning of the pandemic.
CDC statistics show that Florida reported 21,683 cases on Friday, breaking the state’s previous record of 19,334 reported in January.
Florida’s Department of Health reported that 61 percent of the state’s eligible population is currently vaccinated. The CDC has already recommended that all students and staff wear masks in school once they return in the fall.Â
Despite the CDC’s warning and the rise in Covid-19 infections in the state, Gov. Ron DeSantis banned school districts from requiring students and staff to wear masks by executive order on Friday. He also prohibited businesses from requiring customers to provide proof of vaccination.
