And the list is in! Forbes just released the highest-paid entertainers for 2022.
Among our beloved black entertainers, Jay-Z, Tyler Perry, and Kanye West all grabbed top spots on the list of 25 entertainers. Check them out:
Jay-Z at No. 3:
The rapper and entrepreneur took the third spot at $340 million. The hip-hop mogul is the first hip-hop billionaire supporting businesses like Tidal and the Arman de Brignac champagne brand. Though his rapping career helped majorly, it’s safe to say Jay-Z’s multi-billion business ventures set him apart from the rest.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson at No. 4:
A very close lead to hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, “The Rock” came in number four on the list at $270 million. Most of the actor’s income didn’t come from the big screen but his tequila brand, Teremana. It looks like there is a trend when it comes to millionaires and billionaires with liquor.
Kanye “Ye” West at No. 5:
Ye reached number five as the second rapper to make the list at $235 million. Though the Donda rapper has been in the studio, the launch of Yeezy sneakers for Adidas is the money maker of his income these days. The billionaire rapper earned most of his money from the multi-year deal with Adidas. His clothing line also was a huge hit.
Tyler Perry at No. 8:
It’s no surprise that billionaire creator Tyler Perry made the Forbes list with $165 million this year. After Madea’s hiatus, the actor and producer revived the character that made his career. The multi-year production deal with BET was a bonus and his profit from Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.
Sean “Diddy” Combs at No. 14:
Forbes expected to see Diddy on the map from an early interview with the young hustler in 1999. In the interview, he said, “I ain’t foolin’ around, I’m building assets.” Though he still owns brands Bad Boy Records, the newly Sean John clothing line, and REVOLT Media, most of his earnings are from his vodka brand, Cîroc.
Shonda Rhimes at No. 18:
The Bridgerton producer racked all the money after the Netflix show was a massive worldwide hit. After signing with Netflix in 2017, she vowed to wow producers and executives with the ultimate pandemic release. She also is still collecting checks from ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy.
According to Forbes, “Figures represent 2021 pretax earnings, minus fees for representation – managers, lawyers, agents – and/or business operating costs.”
