Texas authorities confirmed the arrest of a 12-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man wanted for murder in the fatal shooting of a Sonic Drive-In employee.
Matthew Davis, 32, was shot and killed Saturday night as he got into a physical fight with Angel Gomez, 20, of Fort Worth, in the parking lot of the restaurant located in Keene.
The 12-year-old was at the restaurant with Gomez, who was reportedly acting “disorderly” and causing a disturbance in the lot. According to Keene police, Davis then confronted Gomez, and an argument ensued. As the incident escalated to violence, the boy, who was in the passenger seat, grabbed an AR-style rifle and shot the victim several times, firing at least six rounds.
The suspects then fled the scene. However, according to ABC News, Gomez returned to the scene during the investigation and was arrested on the spot for murder. The 12-year-old was later arrested in a nearby town, where police also found multiple weapons..
Davis was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the Associated Press reported.
“We were saddened to learn about the tragedy involving a franchised team member in Keene, TX,” Sonic said in a statement to ABC News. “The franchisee is cooperating fully with local authorities as they conduct their investigation. Due to this being an active investigation, we defer any further comment to the local police department.”
Their official charges have not been disclosed. Davis leaves behind a 10-year-old son.
