Gabrielle Union broke the internet days ago when she revealed that she and her husband, Dwyane Wade split their finances in half.
Union made the revelation during an appearance on the Idea Generation podcast.
“In this household, we split everything fifty-fifty,” Union stated. She added that having other households and people who depend on them makes her extremely money conscious, which is something the 50-year-old beauty says she’s working on.
The Black Millionaires podcast shared the clipBlack Millionaires podcast, and it immediately sent social media into a tailspin of think pieces, with podcast hosts everywhere getting their content notes together for upcoming shows. Some criticized her for going halfsies with her retired millionaire husband. Others praised Union for her transparency and suggested that more women be open to going half with their mates.
Women are terrified of 50/50 because the unpaid labour is rarely 50/50 – so women end up being exploited. This is a working class, poor people issue. Please stop projecting on to millionaires Gabrielle Union, and Dwayne Wade.

Some people are Gabrielle Union some people are Savannah James, it’s ok to be either, as long as you are being yourself and happy.

I love Gabrielle Union’s transparency as a nosey bitch myself, but she shares too much. No reason ppl on the internet should know you go 50/50 with your husband and eat his ass. Like Gabby,…cmon now. pic.twitter.com/xZxy6EHpd0

Despite the backlash and applause, Union is unphased by what others feel about her and Wade living in a financially stable household that works for them. On Tuesday, she shared an Instagram Reel showing off some adorable PDA with Wade. In the caption, Union sarcastically addressed the internet chatter, writing, “I love when he matches my energy, 50/50 over here,” ending with an eye-winking emoji.
This is not the first time Union has come under fire for her relationship with Wade. Critics have come down on her for supporting their transgender daughter Zaya Wada. People have also slammed the Two Can Play That Game star for reconciling with the former Miami Heat pro after his 2013 cheating scandal.
Nevertheless, the Wades appear happier than ever these days, which is all that matters in the end.
