Three teens have officially been charged in the April death of 16-year-old Amy Joyner-Francis. You may recall Amy was beaten to death during a fight in the restroom of her Wilmington, DE high school on April 21.Â
Despite different reports of what happened, the Medical Examiner says that Amy died of “a cardiac incident” that she was susceptible to due to a preexisting heart condition. Injuries from the fight did not directly cause Amy’s death. However the DOJ still sees the physical and emotional stress of the fight as a contributing factor, mainly due to the fact that she would not have had a cardiac incident had she not been assaulted.Â
According to the Delaware Department of Justice, three teen girls were involved in planning the fight, however only one girl actually hit Amy. Â 16 year old Trinity Carr, who authorities say actually hit Amy, has been charged with criminally negligent homicide and will be tried as an adult. If convicted she faces up to 8 years in prison.Â
The other two girls have been charged with 3rd degree criminal conspiracy and will be tried as juveniles.Â
