Former Glee actor Blake Jenner opened up in a lengthy six part post on Instagram about being in an abusive relationship with a former partner.  The actor was candid in taking both responsibility for his part and what he alleged his ex had done to him.

In his first post since November 2019, Jenner talked about his decision to come forward. “Throughout that time, I reflected on a period in my life that I had previously kept in the darkness out of shame and fear, but I know this is something that needs to be addressed, not just publicly, but privately with the individual directly affected and with myself,” writes Jenner as he opens the statement.

The What If star described a relationship that started when he was 20 years old, writing, “The passion between us would take us both to some of the most joyous highs, but also to moments of jealous bouts of insecurity, and volatility.”

Now at age 28, Jenner claims to take “full responsibility and accountability for the hurt that I inflicted during my relationship with my past partner — emotionally, mentally, and yes, physically.”

Jenner admits to an altercation that ended with him throwing his phone, striking his ex in the face and causing her eye to swell shut.

He wrote, “It’s a moment that I will regret for the rest of my life. … I am responsible for the pain that I caused her in that moment and beyond. And it is something that I am still working on forgiving myself for.”

He credits therapy with helping him overcome traumas that he says were “due to this false sense of masculinity that I felt the need to uphold.”

The actor also recounted times when he was assaulted, suffering what he called “mental and emotional abuse.” Jenner said, “he was made to pass on numerous jobs and opportunities because of jealousy of prospective female co-stars.” He also revealed was threatened to not develop relationships or take pictures with his female co-stars.

While Jenner never mentioned the name of his former partner, he did say the relationship “was spoken about late last year,” which is telling. This post is his first on the platform since related abuse allegations surfaced in November 2019 from his ex-wife, actress Melissa Benoist, 32.
