A casual conversation on The Breakfast Club quickly turned into a heated debate after Charlamagne Tha God suggested GloRilla could stand across from Nicki Minaj in a Verzuz battle.
His statement immediately split opinions and raised the question of whether GloRilla’s music catalog has enough weight to compete with Nicki’s long career.
Charlamagne explained his reasoning by pointing to GloRilla’s rapid rise and consistent output.
“I mean, I could put GloRilla’s catalog up against Nicki’s,” he said in a clip shared on X. He highlighted how GloRilla built her reputation through mixtapes before releasing her debut album.
According to him, tracks like “F.N.F.” and “Tomorrow” should not be dismissed just because they came from mixtape projects. He stressed that in a Verzuz format, where each artist selects twenty songs, GloRilla has enough music to deliver a strong showing.
The suggestion did not go unchallenged. DJ Envy pushed back by pointing out the gap in experience. “She does have joints,” he noted. “She does not have the catalog Nicki has. Nah, I think Nicki got, what, a 15-year head start? As far as records? Glo definitely got some joints. But as far as catalog, I don’t think she has the time in like Nicki. Nicki goes all over the place. She’ll go trap, she’ll go pop, she’ll go this, she’ll go that. Yeah, nah. I’m not saying [Glo] ain’t got no joints, but Nicki got a 15-year head start.”
Jess Hilarious also questioned whether GloRilla has had enough time to build a comparable body of work. “She ain’t got enough work put in yet,” she argued. “I get it, but I’m just saying. I don’t think she’s been around long enough to put her catalog against Nicki. I’m talking about music too. That’s his opinion, that’s cool. Catalog is crazy. 20 for 20, alright. I still don’t know nobody catalog that’s touching Nicki with her 15 years. But Glo is close.”
Loren Lorosa added her own perspective, pointing to the obvious imbalance in the size of their catalogs. “But does she have as many, though, as Nicki?” she asked.
While the debate showed respect for GloRilla’s breakout success, it also underscored Nicki Minaj’s unmatched run in the industry. With over a decade of chart-topping hits, cross-genre collaborations, and mainstream recognition, Nicki’s catalog remains difficult to challenge.
There is currently no musical connection between the two rappers. GloRilla and Nicki Minaj have not released any collaborations, nor have they had any significant public interactions.
The lack of history makes the idea of a Verzuz battle between them purely hypothetical.
Still, the very suggestion demonstrates how GloRilla’s presence has grown strong enough to inspire comparisons with one of the biggest names in rap.
