Howard University has partnered with Netflix to establish a scholarship fund honoring the late actor Chadwick Boseman.

The Chadwick A. Boseman Memorial Scholarship is a $5.4 million endowment that will benefit students in his alma mater enrolled in the College of Fine Arts.

Each class year, a scholarship will be awarded to one worthy student. The prize will be granted exclusively to incoming first-year students in the coming years. The donation, which covers four years of tuition, will be prioritized for students studying dramatic arts.

Boseman took pride in attending Howard University, where he earned his Bachelors in Fine Arts in 2000. He was presented with an honorary doctorate in 2018, and shortly after his death, the school named its newly-renovated College of Fine Arts after the “Black Panther” star.

Howard University President Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick gloated over the scholarship and praised Boseman for his love for the institution and “contributions to the arts.”

“While Boseman was taken from us too soon, his spirit is with us always in his work and the good that he has inspired,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix Co-CEO and Chief Content Officer.

Chadwick Boseman passed away in August 2020 following a battle with colon cancer. He is best known for portraying T’Challa in “Black Panther.” He also starred in “42” and depicted James Brown in the biopic “Get On Up.”
