During an episode of J. Cole’s new podcast with Lil Yachty, the rapper discussed why the rumored album with fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar never happened.
Cole talked about how he and Lamar became friends in 2010, at the start of both of their careers. There friendship was prior to the release of their Freshman albums.
And although they didn’t put out an album, Cole said he did give Lamar some beats that he later used on his 2011 album “Section.80.” Then in 2015, the two freestyled on one another’s beats, but after that is when things kind of sizzled.
But not because of beef, but more so because their schedules didn’t align- at least not enough for the two to release a project that was fit enough for them and their fans.
“At one point it was a real thing… but time and life, we ain’t never got a chance to like really go in,” Cole added.
As for now, the idea that the two will collaborate doesn’t seem on the horizon, but hopefully.
