Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant apologized before deactivating his Twitter and Instagram accounts after news broke that he was suspended for at least two games.
Morant caught heat after posting an Instagram Live video that showed him holding a gun in a nightclub Saturday morning.
“I take full responsibility for my actions last night,” the statement read. “I’m sorry to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, partners, the city of Memphis, and the entire Grizzlies organization for letting you down. I’m going to take some time away to get help and work on learning better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being,” Morant said Saturday.
The Grizzlies announced earlier Saturday that the 23-year-old, two-time All-Star would “be away from the team for at least the next two games” for his post.
The NBA has launched an investigation into the incident. “We are aware of a social media post involving Ja Morant and are investigating,” Mike Bass, NBA spokesman told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania of The Athletic.
