Jada Pinkett Smith and 2Pac had a complicated situationship, and it may have presented an issue for Jada’s relationship with Will Smith back then. Rapper Napoleon from 2Pac’s group Outlawz revealed details regarding Jada, Pac, and Will in a new interview with The Art of Dialogue.
“I remember when I first came around Pac, Jada Pinkett was in a movie, might have been the first movie she ever starred in, with the Wayans brothers,” Napoleon said. He shared how he and 2Pac watched the movie (which is presumed to be the 1994 film A Low Down Dirty Shame) in Atlanta and how “focused” Pac was on Jada’s role in the film.
“Then, a couple days later, I heard him mentioning to someone that he knew the actress, which is Jada Pinkett. Later on, she became a star,” Napoleon stated. “The second time I probably heard him talk about her is when he went to L.A. He was very upset. Pac came in the room and was like, ‘Jada, she gonna contact me and tell me don’t do nothing to Will Smith.’ So Pac was upset and said, ‘I don’t know why she think I would have tried to make some problems with Will Smith.’ I guess it kind of hurt him. He had a lot of love for Jada Pinkett, a lot of respect for her.”
Jada and 2Pac’s friendship was in the news last month when she shared a never seen or heard poem he wrote while serving time on NYC’s Rikers Island titled “Lost Soulz.” She shared the poem in celebration of what would have been the late rapper’s 50th birthday.
“Pac wrote me many letters and many poems. I don’t think this one has ever been published. I don’t think he would have minded that I shared this with you guys,” she stated in the video before reading the poem.
