Oscar award-winning actor Jamie Foxx is set to produce and star in “The Burial.”
Pulitzer Prize-winner Doug Wright wrote the film’s screenplay, and Maggie Betts has been slated as director. Foxx will act as producer for the drama alongside Amazon Studios, Bobby Shriver Inc. and Double Nickel Entertainment. Other producers include Bobby Shriver and Double Nickel’s Adam Richman & Jenette Kahn. Deadline reports that Datari Turner will also be producing.
The screenplay is based on the New Yorker article by Jonathan Harr. The film will be based on the true story of a bankrupt funeral owner who takes legal action against a businessman over a bad handshake deal. The owner ends up getting legal representation from a flamboyant attorney.
Foxx has a big rollout of projects that he’s starring in and producing. The actor’s voice will also be heard in Disney-Pixar’s Soul, and he’s also set to produce and star in They Cloned Tyrone. In addition, he will be executive producing and starring in Netflix’s father-daughter comedy series Dad Stop Embarrassing Me, which is based on his relationship with his oldest daughter Corinne Foxx, who is also producing the series.
