#JamieFoxx has been tapped to portray antihero Spawn in an upcoming reboot.
The Blumhouse-produced film will be written and directed by the comic’s creator #ToddMacFarlane.

The original ”Spawn” was released back in 1992 and was followed by a revamp in 1997 starring #MichaelJaiWhite as Spawn. Spawn is an antihero with various powers including super speed and strength as well as the ability to teleport, heal and shapeshift.

The movie will follow the story of Al Simmons (Foxx), who is a CIA black ops member who’s been betrayed, twice by his team. According to Deadline, “[After being set up by his cohorts to be murdered with his corpse set aflame, Simmons is double-crossed in Hell].” In order to get back to his wife, he is convinced to become a Hellspawn warrior.

However, he finds out that he’s not only now stuck in a demonic creature shell but that his wife has started dating Simmons’ best friend. Simmons who is now Spawn then begins his journey as a good and evil hero who fights in battles involving Earth, Heaven, and Hell.

This will be Foxx’s second time playing a comic book character. He most recently played Electro in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” The film has yet to receive a release date.
