The battle over the Drake checks continues. Jas Prince is suing the middle man, Aspire Music Group, for allegedly not coughing up the money owed.
You may recall, Jas Prince is notably responsible for discovering Drake and introducing him to Cortez Bryant and Derrick Lawrence at Aspire. Eventually, this is how Drake ends up at Young Money. Jas, however, inked up a contract with Aspire and Young Money to receive his finder’s fee. He’s been fighting for the unpaid checks for several years.
TMZ reports, the agreement was as follows: Young Money is to pay Aspire 1/3 of Drake’s profits. Aspire is then supposed to keep 1/3 of that, and pay Jas Prince the remaining 2/3 for finding Drake.
The issue is that Young Money has not been paying Aspire, thus Aspire has not been paying Jas. According to TMZ, the contract requires Aspire to use their “best efforts” to get the funds from Young Money, so Jas is wondering why Aspire’s Derrick Lawrence hasn’t taken Young Money to court. Since they haven’t done their job, Prince is suing Lawrence.
There were rumors of a settlement between Jas and Young Money a few months ago. Turns out that was completely false.
