Jay-Z is taking legal action against lawyer Tony Buzbee, who helped push the assault lawsuit against the mogul.
The hip-hop billionaire has filed a lawsuit against Buzbee, accusing him of defamation, civil extortion, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. This follows the February 14th dismissal of a case alleging that Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs assaulted a minor at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000.
“The frivolous, fictitious, and appalling allegations have been dismissed,” Jay-Z stated. “The lawsuit was without merit and never going anywhere.”
Jay-Z claims the lawsuit was deliberately filed the night before his daughter Blue Ivy’s “Mufasa: The Lion King” premiere to force him into a no-win situation.
“I felt that Mr. Buzbee was placing a gun to my head—that I either bow to his demands or endure personal and financial ruin,” he declared in his legal filing.
Beyond the reputational damage, Jay-Z alleges he lost $20 million in business contracts due to the accusations, describing the ordeal as a calculated attack on his legacy.
Meanwhile, Diddy remains in legal trouble, facing racketeering and sex trafficking charges, with his trial set for May 2025.
Jay-Z’s lawsuit aims to hold Buzbee accountable and set a precedent against legal system abuse. As the battle unfolds, the rapper remains focused on his family and career, refusing to let false allegations define his legacy.
