Jayda Cheaves and Dess Dior are the talk of social media, and this time, it’s about their dating preferences.
The influencer recently joined “Million Dollaz Worth Of Game” along with bestie Dess Dior, where the subject of funds in a relationship came up. Cheaves quickly shut down the idea of dating a man who has less than her. Dess chimed in, adding, “As a man, I feel like you just should have more than me.” Both women have been linked to wealthy men in the past, so their answers were not entirely a surprise. Cheaves was previously in a long-term relationship with rapper Lil Baby, with whom she shares a son. Dior started dating Future in late 2020 until 2022.
“Dating somebody that doesn’t have more they gone try to make you feel less than as a woman. That’s how I feel genuinely…If I’m gone be in a relationship I’d rather it be with somebody that can benefit me rather than somebody that’s taking away from what I got going on. ‘Cause these men that don’t have the financial status that you have, they are going to try to just make you feel like you’re not ‘her,'” Cheaves continued.
While such comments led to some backlash, research would agree with Cheaves and Dior. Recent data shows the number of women making more than their men is on the rise. However, a study published by the University of Bath in November 2019 found that this factor was making men “increasingly uncomfortable,” according to the findings reported by CNBC. This can be attributed to the traditional belief and practice of men being the primary breadwinners in their families.
“If you are not fulfilling that expectation, it has the potential to damage your self-esteem and self-worth,” financial expert and author Farnoosh Torabi explained to CNBC Make It.
Another June 2012 study published in the Swiss Journal of Psychology, Vol. 71, No. 3, also noted that many women seeking a husband were interested in the security a man can provide.
“For long-term dating, women value men with greater financial resources and higher status,” these findings read.
Whether you agree with Cheaves and Dior, analyses have validated their apprehensions about dating men who make less than them. Furthermore, it’s evident they are not the only girl bosses who think this way.
