R. Kelly’s bail has been set at $1 million, $250,000 per charge in his sexual abuse case. Although prosecutors explained the details of Kelly’s four separate indictments in Cook County and requested he not be granted bail, Judge John Lyke Jr. disagreed and set bail anyway.
R. Kelly’s lawyer claims the singer’s current finances won’t afford him to bond out just yet, but a source close to Kelly told #TMZ that he would have $100k soon enough to post bail. If he does, he’ll be released from jail before his trial.
During the hearing, attorney Steve Greenberg told the judge, “Contrary to the song, Mr. Kelly doesn’t like to fly,” in reference to the Grammy-award winner’s hit “I Believe I Can Fly.” The judge, who also presided over #Empire star Jussie Smollett’s bond hearing, called the allegations against Kelly “disturbing.”
