If there is one thing all Grey’s fans can agree on, it is that there is nothing like the original cast. On Friday, one of our beloved OG’s, Alex Karev, played by Justin Chambers, announced his departure from the award-winning series.

In a statement to People Magazine, Chambers stated, “There is no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years.”

Chambers was 35-years-old when he was introduced as Dr. Karev to audiences during the pilot of the drama series back in 2005. His character, who once resented his colleagues as an intern, grew to be one of the best pediatric surgeons in Seattle. His character arguably had one of the best character developments throughout the series thus far.

As his 50th birthday approaches, he has decided to pursue other acting opportunities. “For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices.”

“As I move in from Grey’s Anatomy, I want to thank the ABC family, Shonda Rimes, original cast members Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens, and the rest of the amazing cast and crew, both past and present, and, of course,” Chambers added in his statement to People.

With the departure of Chambers, leaves only three original cast members left on the show.

Dr. Karev can be last seen in the episode “My Shot,” aired Nov. 14, 2019. His character will not be getting a send-off.
