Kentucky has seen a rise in coronavirus cases after residents protested a state-wide lockdown to stop the spread.
Governor Andy Beshear said at a press conference Sunday that there were 273 new cases of coronavirus – the highest spike in cases so far.
Altogether there are 2,960 cases in the state and 148 deaths.
“We’re still in the midst of the fight,” Beshear said.
The cases come after residents took to the streets for a series of protests last week against Beshear’s stay-at-home orders.
About 100 Kentucky residents were involved in the protests demanding the governor reopen after over half a million residents filed for unemployment.
Also protesting was a Louiseville church pastor that filed a lawsuit against Bashear for forcing the church to close on Easter, calling it a violation of freedom of religion.
