Kevin Hart and his Hartbeat Productions will debut a two-part documentary on the A&E Network, highlighting the evolution of Black comedy.

The mini-doc, titled “Right to Offend: The Black Comedy Revolution,” will explore how Black comedians have withstood the test of time, using humor to spark conversations and change surrounding racial injustices and societal issues. The show will take viewers back in time to the era of Redd Foxx, Dick Gregory, and Moms Mabley, who used comedy to fight back against racism during the civil rights movement. “Right to Offend” will then advance to the joke makers of today, highlighting contributions from comedic leaders such as Dave Chappelle, “Coming to America” star Eddie Murphy, and “Insecure” creator and actress Issa Rae.

“Right to Offend” will feature archival footage and interviews from comedy vets Katt Williams and Steve Harvey, Wayne Brady, Sherri Shepherd, and Hart himself. Tiffany Haddish and Michael Che are among the notable names who will also sit down for the two-parter.

Hartbeat will collaborate with Time Studios for the production. Kevin Hart, Bryan Smiley, Pookey Wigington, and Mike Stein are among the show’s executive producers.

“Right to Offend: The Black Comedy Revolution” will debut on the A&E Network on Wednesday, June 29th at 9 p.m.
