Lakers Nick Young & Tami Roman Star In New Sitcom “The Assist” (VIDEO)

NBA all-star Nick Young and BBWLA’s Tami Roman star in “The Assist,” a hilarious new dramedy pilot. “The Assist” is a fish-out-of-water comedy from executive producer Ernest Dukes that also stars acting newcomer Paris Phillips and R&B songstress Brooke Valentine. “The Assist” centers on a charismatic street-smart girl from Brooklyn (Phillips) who gets a once in a lifetime opportunity to work for an NBA superstar (Young) after a chance encounter. Shamicka Lawrence serves as a producer on The Assist which is currently being pitched to various networks. 

 

Nick Young on Becoming An Actor:

“It’s a different element that I wanted to try. Basketball only lasts for so long so I wanted to branch out and see what else I could do. I don’t want to be [limited] to one category.”  

Tami Roman on The Assist:

“I wanted to do this project because I read the script and we haven’t had any really good scripted programming in a long time, everything is reality TV. Although I’ve made several checks in that genre, I’m very excited to return back to scripted TV.”

Tami Roman on Playing Tina Drake:

“This was an amazing character for me to play. Fully in charge, not the girlfriend, not the ex-girlfriend, not the baby mama; I’m kind of the boss over the boss on this show.”

Shamicka Lawrence on Why People Should Watch:

“I think people should watch the show because it gives you that vibe of the old school back in the day shows. We haven’t had a really good sitcom since the Martin show and this is something people can enjoy like the Martin show.”
