Lamar Odom’s daughter, Destiny, is dishing on her dad’s drug use and previous marriage to Khloe Kardashian. The 18-year-old tells PEOPLE that when she heard of her father’s 2015 overdose in a Nevada brothel, she had already prepared for the worst.
“It was a school night when I found out,” she said. “We all thought that he was, that this was it for him and he was going to pass away. But, life is so crazy. The next morning he was ripping tubes out of his mouth and I don’t really think that’s a coincidence,” she said. “I don’t really think that’s a coincidence. I think he was meant to be here because of me and my brother. It sounds like a cheesy movie, but I think that everything happens for a reason.”
As far as her father’s relationships with Khloe Kardashian, Destiny didn’t have a lot of nice things to say. She tells PEOPLE that despite her father being an NBA player, he didn’t begin receiving public scrutiny until he got with Khloe.
“Things changed when my dad married Khloe. Things were a lot more public,” said Destiny, recalling how she used to watch her father on Keeping Up With The Kardashians at just 12 years old. “When your dad’s an NBA player that’s already enough, but when he’s marrying a reality TV star, things are so public and you don’t have a private life anymore. It was crazy that my dad was getting married to this woman that I used to watch religiously. It was such a whirlwind, really.”
Destiny says that her father’s relationship with Khloe also had a negative impact on her school life.
“There were regular snide comments at school. And when his addiction became public, then it became a social media thing. Even people that I thought were my friends were saying stuff on social media. It was humiliating.”
Destiny says she was puzzled by Khloe stepping in to help her father after his overdose.
“A lot of people in our circle were confused,” Destiny tells PEOPLE. “Their relationship is very toxic.
