While promoting their collaborative project, “ColleGrove,” Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz appeared as guests on DJ Drama’s Street Is Watchin show on Sirius/XM Shade 45. During the interview, Lil Wayne reflects on the time Jay Z wanted to sign him to Roc-A-Fella.
“We was at the 40/40 in the day time, and when I got up there it was Denzel, it was Derek Jeter… I was like, this is his clique? And they’re up there just laughing at jokes I just don’t get. I mean laughing loud,” Wayne recalls. “He literally sat me down next to him and would to me on the side after every joke. Man, that man offered me 175. I was lookin’ at him like ‘two teeth in my mouth is $175,000.'”
Wayne says that he and Jay Z still laugh about that meeting every day. Wayne says that he still looks up to Jay Z as a mentor and often, Jay Z will call him and give him business advice. As far as new music from the two Carters, Lil Wayne says there is a ton in store.
