According to Billboard, Lizzo has not and will not be banned from the Staples Center despite rumors and demands.
Lizzo went viral earlier this week when she attended a Lakers game at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and danced to her song “Juice”. She twerked for a few seconds wearing a thong shown in a cut out dress, live on air.
After the incident, fans took to Twitter to debate Lizzo’s fit, arguing whether or not it was the time and place for such a revealing piece. But amid calls for the singer to be punished, a news headline went viral claiming she’d been banned from the Staples Center for her outfit.
“She is not banned from the Staples Center and is welcome here anytime,” Lee Zeidman, president of Staples Center, Microsoft Theater and LA Live, told Billboard. “It’s ridiculous that these rumors get started and that people write these types of things without making any attempt to find out the truth. It’s very lazy and disrespectful.”
Zeidman added that he was looking forward to Lizzo attending next year’s Grammy ceremony at the arena and said they would love to host one of her concerts if they were lucky enough to be selected for one of her LA show’s.
Lizzo also clapped back at her haters online and said on Instagram live, “Who I am and the essence of me and the things that I choose to do as a grown-ass woman can inspire you to do the same. You don’t have to be like me — you need to be like you. And never, ever let somebody stop you or shame you from being yourself.”
