Two nurses who worked on Long Island allegedly forged official COVID-19 vaccination cards and entered the information into New York’s statewide database.
The duo’s scheme allegedly brought in more than $1.5 million.
Julie DeVuono, 49, and Marissa Urrao, 44, worked at Wild Child Pediatric Healthcare in Amityville. DeVuono was its owner and operator, the district attorney in Suffolk County said.
Between Nov. 2021 and Jan. 2022, the women reportedly forged vaccine cards and charged $220 for adults and $85 for children. During their arraignment, prosecutors also alleged the nurses wrote fake cards for undercover detectives who did not receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
“As nurses, these two individuals should understand the importance of legitimate vaccination cards as we all work together to protect public health,” said Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison.
A ledger was found at DeVuono’s home, which apparently documented the profits from their scheme and totaled more than $1.5 million, prosecutors added. Investigators discovered $900,000 at the residence.
Both have been charged with one count of forgery, and DeVuono was additionally charged with offering a false instrument for filing.
