A police officer was shot and killed, and the suspect was seriously injured on Friday after officers responded to a disturbance call in a small Louisiana community called Doyline.
According to CNN, Officer William “Billy” Earl Collins Jr. was shot and killed after he and two other officers responded to the disturbance call, Louisiana State Police Trooper Jonathon Odom said.
Someone fired on the officers when they arrived on the scene, hitting Collins, Odom explained.
Odom also confirmed that the suspected shooter suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital but would not say how that person was injured.
Officer Collins serving as a Doyline police officer and a Webster Parish sheriff’s deputy, working as a supervisor at a correctional center in the parish, Webster Parish Sheriff Jason Parker said in a news conference.
“We lost a good man,” Parker told reporters. “A family lost a good husband, a good father, a good Webster Parish deputy, a good … patrol officer for the city of Doyline that loved and served his citizens well.”
