The Louvre Museum in Paris reopened its doors on Wednesday morning after a shocking $102 million jewel heist that left France stunned.
Police say four thieves carried out the daring daylight robbery in just four minutes, escaping with eight of the country’s crown jewels.
While most of the museum is now open, the Apollo Room, where the theft took place, remains closed as investigators continue searching for clues.
Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau, who is leading the case, said about 100 officers are working to recover the jewels before they are melted down or sold.
“The wrongdoers who took these gems won’t earn 88 million euros if they had the very bad idea of disassembling these jewels,” she said. “We can perhaps hope that they’ll think about this and won’t destroy these jewels without rhyme or reason.”
The stolen pieces are valued at roughly 88 million euros, or $102 million, but their cultural and historical importance makes them truly priceless.
