Marlon Wayans and Neal H Mortiz, the producer of Fast and Furious franchise, are teaming up for a new action-packed romantic comedy titled, Ride or Die.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Ride or Die follows Marlon as he plays Martin Banks, a robbery detective that partners with a hard-hitting female narcotics detective, Tami Moore, to find a stolen billion-dollar shipment of deadly opioids that threaten to flood the streets of Chicago.
The script is written by Marlon and Rick Alvarez, and has been described as Bad Boys with a romantic twist. Neil, along with Toby Ascher, will produce the film under their Original Film banner, while Marlon and Rick will get producer credits under their company, Ugly Baby.
In a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, Neil said, “I was lucky enough to get a chance to read this script early, and I had to jump on it. Rarely do you read scripts with such a great concept and relationship.”
Marlon added that Rick and himself see the movie as a start to a potential franchise, and ”collaborating with Neal, who has mastered the art of franchises, makes it a perfect fit.”
There’s no official word on when the film will start production, or who will direct or co-star along with Marlon in the movie. But until then, you can catch Marlon alongside Bill Murray and Rashida Jones in Sofia Coppola‘s movie, On the Rocks.
Marlon also appears in MGM’s Aretha Franklin biopic Respect, which stars Jennifer Hudson as the Queen of Soul.
