The long-standing questions surrounding the status of Mendeecees Harris and Yandy Smith have finally been answered
Following a wave of rumors connecting him to Tamar Braxton and intense chatter sparked by Funky Dineva, the Love & Hip Hop star decided to stop the noise during an appearance on Yung Joc’s radio show.
While many believed the couple was simply going through a rough patch, Mendeecees delivered a reality check that nobody saw coming. When asked if he and Yandy are still an item, he didn’t hold back, simply stating, “oh we not together.”
The most explosive part of the conversation centered on the fact that despite their lavish televised wedding, the two never actually became husband and wife in the eyes of the law. Mendeecees explained that a divorce is off the table for a very specific reason: “we was never legally married.”
He revealed that the decision to skip the paperwork was a strategic move prompted by his past legal troubles and heavy financial penalties. “It was Yandy’s idea,” he admitted, explaining that at the time, his situation was too volatile to risk a legal union. “In the beginning, I was going through legal battles with courts and fines, and she said, ‘Let’s not sign the papers.’ I was like, all right, cool. Then I guess kind of just stayed that way.”
The lack of a legal bond has actually become a source of relief for the father of four as they navigate their new reality. He pointed out that they are avoiding the standard courtroom drama that usually follows a twenty year relationship.
“If I look back now and see what people go through with divorce, assets, all that, we don’t have to go through none of that. You know what I’m saying? It kind of worked out,” he shared.
While the public is just now catching up, the separation isn’t fresh for the family. Mendeecees disclosed that they have been living separate lives for quite some time, noting, “Right now, we’ve probably been split up for over a year.”
Even though they have reached the end of their romantic road, Mendeecees remains grateful for the time they spent together and the man he became while by Yandy’s side.
He credited her for opening his heart and teaching him the true meaning of family. “I matured in so many ways being with Yandy. I wouldn’t be the man I am today if it wasn’t for her,” he reflected. He noted that while the rumors might bother the public, he and Yandy usually just sit back and laugh at the “fake” stories because they know the real truth of their situation.
For now, he is focused on his growth and his children, making it clear that his private life is no longer up for public debate.
