Federal authorities are investigating a Miami nurse for threatening Vice President Kamala Harris in a series of videos.
Niviane Petit Phelps recorded five videos threatening the VP. Federal authorities believe that Phelps was looking to carry out her threats. In one of the clips, the mother of three says that she would practice at the gun range and had applied for a concealed weapons permit to attack Harris in 50 days.
Phelps threatened to kill Harris because she believes that Harris “isn’t actually Black.” She also expressed anger over President Joe Biden and Harris’s victory.
In a February 13th video, Phelps warned, “Kamala Harris, you are going to die. Your days are numbered.” In another dated February 14th, the 39-year-old addresses Harris again, stating, “If I see you in the street, I’m gonna kill your ass, Kamala Harris.”
A spokesperson for Jackson Memorial Hospital, where Phelps was a nurse for 20 years, confirmed that she would be terminated.
Phelps’s plot was foiled after sending the alarming videos to her husband, Joseph, who is currently incarcerated in state prison for a 1996 armed robbery and murder. Media sent to inmates is monitored by law enforcement.
Scott Saul, the attorney representing Phelps, told the Miami Herald that the woman poses no real threat to the vice president. He says that his client was just “venting to her incarcerated husband.”
Secret Service Agent Lucas White spoke with Phelps on March 6th. She revealed that while she was angry about Harris’s being the VP, she is “over it now.”
Phelps has been charged with making threats against Harris. She is being held at the Federal Detention Center in Miami. She faces five years in prison if convicted.
