Michael Wolff, the journalist and best-selling author behind “Fire and Fury” and “Siege,” is back in the headlines after filing a lawsuit against Melania Trump. The lawsuit comes after her legal team allegedly threatened Wolff with a $1 billion defamation case over his latest claims involving her and late financier Jeffrey Epstein.
According to filings obtained by the Associated Press, Wolff accuses Melania of attempting to “intimidate and silence” him over remarks he made during interviews and promotional material for his upcoming book. He says her legal threats were an effort to suppress reporting that might be damaging to her public image.
Melania Trump’s attorney reportedly sent Wolff a cease-and-desist letter demanding a retraction of any mention linking her to Epstein’s network. Instead of backing down, Wolff fired back with his own lawsuit, saying her team’s billion-dollar threat violated his free speech rights.
Wolff’s complaint, filed in New York State Court, seeks to have Melania deposed under oath. He claims he wants her to answer questions about her knowledge of Epstein, her early modeling career, and her relationship with Donald Trump during that period. The author has also suggested that the discovery phase could bring “new and uncomfortable truths” to light.
Melania Trump’s camp quickly dismissed the filing, calling it “baseless and self-promotional.” Her spokesperson stated that Wolff’s “false and salacious claims are designed to sell books, not present facts.”
Still, Wolff seems prepared to take the matter all the way. Speaking to The Daily Beast, he said, “If they want to threaten me, they’ll have to do it in front of a judge. I will ask Melania what she knows about Epstein, directly.”
The lawsuit adds another chapter to Wolff’s ongoing saga with the Trump family. His past books have drawn intense reactions from Donald Trump, who once called him a “disgraced hack writer.” Now, Wolff’s newest legal move puts Melania in the spotlight for the first time since leaving Washington.
Legal experts say the case could take months, if not years, to resolve. For now, Wolff seems ready for the fight, and Melania’s team appears equally determined to shut it down.
