Michelle Obama is done answering the question everyone keeps asking: Will she run for president?
Speaking with Tracee Ellis Ross at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on Friday, while promoting her new book The Look, the former first lady made it clear that America is not ready and she is tired of being asked.
“As we saw in this past election, sadly, we ain’t ready,” she told the audience. “That is why I am like, don’t even look at me about running, because you all are lying. You’re not ready for a woman. You are not.”
“So don’t waste my time,” she added. “We got a lot of growing up to do, and there are still, sadly, a lot of men who feel like they cannot be led by a woman, and we saw it. I think we still have growing to do in that regard.”
Michelle is clearly frustrated with people who keep pushing her to run. Even though her popularity is sky-high and she often ranks higher than her husband, former President Barack Obama, she is sticking to her decision.
A 2024 poll suggested she could have been the only Democrat with a strong chance of defeating Donald Trump, but she is not interested. Public office is not her thing. She is already busy enough telling people to know their worth without adding the stress of the Oval Office.
Her remarks also highlight a bigger issue, which is the challenges women continue to face in presidential politics.
As you know, Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris both secured major nominations during the 2016 and 2024 elections but did not win, proving the path is still difficult for women seeking the nation’s highest office.
In the end, Michelle Obama’s message is clear, she wants people to stop asking her to run and to understand that society has some growing up to do.
Until the country is ready, she is content watching from the sidelines and letting America catch up.
Michelle Obama:
“Don’t even look at me about running, because you all are lying. You’re not ready for a woman. So don’t waste my time. We got a lot of growing up to do.”
