A family is demanding answers after a Michigan woman was found unresponsive in her Harper Woods holding cell on Wednesday.
Priscilla Slater was found around 12:35 PM by Harper Woods Department of Public Safety Personnel, according to ClickOnDetroit.Com. Paramedics immediately attempted to revive her; however, they were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at 12:45 PM by a St. John Hospital physician.
Slater was then transferred to the Wayne County Medical Examiner to figure out the cause of her death. However, the results have not been revealed, the outlet reports.
Now, as a result, Slater’s family is outraged and demanding answers, as they have yet to know the reason for Slater’s arrest.
“I’m mad about it, and I want justice for Priscilla, yes I do,” Slater’s aunt, Jennifer Rand said, according to WXYZ Detroit. “It sounds like it’s a coverup like they’re covering something up.”
“They came to our house yesterday around 6:30 telling us that she was found dead in her cell,” Laquita Gill, Slater’s sister, said. “It’s very unusual, and they’re not giving us a reason why they took her to jail,” they added.
Slater was arrested on Tuesday at the Parkcrest Inn, according to her family.
“She died unnecessarily,” they said. “This does not feel good. When you care about a person, you raise them, and out of nowhere, they’re gone.”
The incident is under investigation by the Michigan State Police.
