One person is dead, and four others were injured after a 67-year-old man opened fire at the Allina Health Clinic Crossroads campus in Buffalo, Minnesota, on Tuesday.
According to ABC News, law enforcement officials are “very familiar with the suspect,” identified as Greg Ulrich.
Ulrich was taken into custody at the facility, and bomb technicians were investigating a suspicious device left at the scene, and others discovered at a motel where he was staying, authorities said. Police also said they believe this was a targeted incident and that he acted alone.
Buffalo Police Chief Pat Budke said Ulrich has had a long history of conflict with medical clinics in the Buffalo area and had been very unhappy with the quality of care he had received.
One police report claims that Ulrich threatened to carry out a mass shooting at the same clinic back in October 2018. A doctor told investigators in that incident that Ulrich had talked about “shooting, blowing things up, and practicing different scenarios of how to get revenge.” The doctor said Ulrich told him he dreamed about exacting revenge on the people who “tortured” him, referring to issues he had with back surgeries and the medication they prescribed him for his ailments.
