According to the New York Post, for the first time in 85 years, the game will change its Community Chest Cards.
The classic board game is a favorite among many families and has been for generations, but game makers feel that with the changing of times, Monopoly should follow suit.
All 16 Community Chest Cards will be changed, including outdated topics like beauty contests, tax refunds, holiday funds, and life insurance, MSN reported.
Monopoly will now focus on more contemporary “community” matters with the hopes of making the board game a better reflection of the world we live in today.
The game is sticking to involving its players with what they feel should be the new Community Chest Cards that will be sold. Fans can vote for the new cards such as “Shop Local,” “Rescue Puppy,” or “Helping Your Neighbors.”
The game also weighs its options on scenarios that may come up, like being penalized for hosting a party or not recycling and may be rewarded for volunteering or donating money.
Fans are encouraged to visit MonopolyCommunityChest.com between March 18 through April 9th, 2021, to cast their votes for their favorite options.
“Since Monopoly became a household name more than 85 years ago, the world has changed and embraced a new sense of community – particularly after the unprecedented year of 2020”, said Anne Leonhardi, Marketing Director North Europe at Hasbro.
“With community being more important than ever before, this year is the perfect time to give fans across the country the chance to show what community means to them through voting on the new set of Community Chest cards – and for Monopoly champion the nation’s philanthropic spirit to give back to those most in need via its Community Chest fund.”
