Actor Morgan Freeman has been announced as the recipient of the 43rd Annual Chaplin Award, an honor given out by the Film Society of Lincoln Center, the same organization that presents the New York Film Festival.
The Chaplin Award honors actors and filmmakers who have reached the highest level of prominence and artistic achievement. Freeman will take home the award for his roles in films like “Lean on Me,” “Driving Miss Daisy,” “The Shawshank Redemption,” “Seven” and “Million Dollar Baby.”
The Chaplin Awards were launched by FSLC in 1972 to honor actor Charlie Chaplin. Since named after its inaugural honoree, the award has gone to a roster of talents, including Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder, Martin Scorsese, Meryl Streep, Barbra Streisand and last year, Robert Redford.
Freeman is currently the executive producer of the CBS series “Madam Secretary,” and hosts and executive produces “Through the Wormhole With Morgan Freeman.”
The 2016 Chaplin Awards are set for April 25 at Lincoln Center in Manhattan.
