A mother faces a felony aggravated assault charge after authorities say she threw a bottle of bleach into the face of an 11-year-old girl.
Apparently, the girl was in a fight with her daughter.
Marlaina Lucus, 30, also recorded a simple assault charge for punching the 11-year-old girl’s mother in the face when she tried to intervene The fight Monday outside of Rowland Academy school.
Lucus went to jail Monday night following the assault but posted bond on Tuesday.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Jan. 6.
Court records allege the 11-year-old was walking to her mother’s car after school when another girl that she had a prior dispute with approached her. The two got into a fight, police said, and that’s when the confronter’s mother got out of her vehicle.
The mother is said to have thrown a water bottle at the 11-year-old’s face, court records said. The girl said it was filled with bleach that hit her face and eyes.
The victim’s mom tried to stop the attack when someone wrapped their arm around her neck and striker her in her face. She suffered cuts to her face, Penn Live reported.
The mother of the girl who started the argument left in her car but was later stopped and arrested by police.
School leaders said the attack was very upsetting.
They also confronted the student, who didn’t even go to school the day of the attack but possibly came there looking for the other student.
The mother who was arrested is now prohibited from being on school property. The district is also called Dauphin County Children and Youth Services. It’s unclear what discipline her daughter faces as student records are kept private.
But Superintendent Eric Turman said: “We will impose the most serious actions possible under the disciplinary code.”
“This district will not tolerate any kind of violence,” Turman added.
Both Turman and Chief Operating Officer Chris Celmer, who are longtime educators said neither had seen an attack like that at any point in their careers.
“Our schools must be a safe place,” Turman said.
