Breakout actor Nate Parker has just reached a new level of success with his film “The Birth of A Nation.” After creating waves at the Sundance Film Festival, the film has been acquired by Fox Searchlight for a whopping $17.5 million. The deal smashed the historical festival’s record for the largest deal in Sundance history.
The 36-year old, “Beyond the Lights” actor wrote and directed the film himself, and even invested his own money for its production. The bidding for the rights to the film was extremely competitive, as companies like Paramount and Sony put up offers. It is also reported that Netflix offered $20 million for the film.
“The Birth of a Nation” reveals the story of a slave rebellion led by the famous Nat Turner in 1831. Parker stars as Nat Turner in the film, while Armie Hammer, Penelope Ann Miller, Jackie Earle Haley and Mark Boone Junior act alongside of him.
A huge congratulations to Nate Parker is in order!
