BlendJet is recalling around 4.8 million portable blenders due to safety concerns, as they pose laceration and fire hazards.
On Thursday, The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission noted issues with BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders, including overheating, fire risks, and instances where blender blades broke off during use, which resulted in dozens of reported injuries.
According to the CPSC, there are 329 reports of blades breaking during use and 17 incidents of overheating or fires, causing approximately $150,000 in property damage claims.
Additionally, they received 49 reports of minor burn injuries and one reported laceration injury.
Consumers are urged to discontinue using the recalled BlendJet blenders immediately and contact the company for a complimentary base unit replacement.
To receive a replacement, customers must remove and cut up the base’s rubber seal and then submit a photo through BlendJet’s website.
BlendJet stated that the recall applies to older Blender 2 models, while the current BlendJet 2 blenders, available for purchase, have updated components and are not subject to the recall.
“Out of an abundance of caution, our company updated the base of the BlendJet 2 to feature thicker blades and an improved electrical configuration,” BlendJet wrote in a statement. “These updates were incorporated many months ago into all BlendJet 2 devices manufactured by the company.”
According to the CPSC, BlendJet 2 blenders with serial numbers “5201” to “5542” are part of the recall, while those with serial numbers “5543” or higher are not affected.
The CPSC reports that the 4.8 million recalled BlendJet Portable Blenders, sold from October 2020 to November 2023, were offered online and at retailers like Costco, Walmart, and Target.
Furthermore, approximately 117,000 recalled BlendJet 2 blenders were sold in Canada.
Consumers can check their blender’s recall status by providing product information on BlendJet’s website or contacting the company.
