New COVID-19 Strain Found In Florida; Third Confirmed US Case

A new strain of COVID-19 that was originally discovered in the United Kingdom has made its way into the United States. On Thursday, the Florida Department of Health reported its first case.

A Martin County man in his 20s has contracted the COVID-19 variant. He had no travel history before his diagnosis, the agency stated on Twitter.

According to the New York Post, the other two cases were found first in Colorado and then in California.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson informed the public that the new strain of the virus could be 70 percent more transmissible than the one before it.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, an infectious disease expert, believes the new strain will show up in other states as well.

On Thursday, the same day the new strain was discovered, Florida reported the highest daily jump ever in standard coronavirus cases.

On December 31, there were 17, 192 cases and 133 new deaths.
